Nuts, typically hex shaped (though sometimes with deviations, such as with dome cap), come in various heights, widths (thicknesses), and sometimes with special devices to effect the fastening, such as nylon lock nut. It is important that the right nut is chosen for the application, based on the needs of the application and bolt to which they are applied. As with other fasteners, DIN and ISO are the main standards for the metric nuts, with the standards being mostly interchangeable, but there may be some dimensional differences at certain sizes between some of the DIN and ISO counterparts.
