The Storms We Face

Hey, friends. Craig here.

Now, normally, when I do VLOGs like this, I crack a few Dad jokes, poke fun at myself, and remind you about the values of my company: Service, faith, and an ability to solve all of your metric fastener needs. But that’s not what I’m going to do today.

Instead, I want to take a moment to talk about Tropical Storm Debbie. We certainly felt its effects here in our South Carolina Lowcountry, and maybe you’re located in a state that did as well. Fortunately, we’re okay, but I know that many of my friends and neighbors are not.

The last time I looked, Debbie walloped some parts of our state along with Florida the rest of the eastern seaboard. It dumped over a foot of rain, killing six people, and causing millions in damages. This one wasn’t easy. And it won’t be easy to fully recover.

Look, I’ve been here before. I can still remember Hurricane Hugo. I was actually in college down in Charleston, South Carolina when it hit, and I remember the death, the destruction, and how long it took us to recover.

However, that’s not the part of that storm that I like to remember the most, though. The memories that really stick with me aren’t of the hurricane but what happened afterward. I remember neighbors helping neighbors. I remember people opening up their homes to give shelter to those in need, the assistance given to first responders, and the “whatever attitude” everyone took to get people and businesses back on their feet again. Yes, I do remember a devastated community – but I also remember a community that recovered together as one.

We all have to navigate storms in life. Whether it’s in our personal lives or our business lives, there is always going to be something that can cause a ton of stress and turmoil. That goes double for times like we’re experiencing today, where politicians and the media and all sorts of bad actors try to divide us. I guess my point is this: Life isn’t easy. All of us have storms to weather. But I’ve seen people get through worse, and I have no doubt that we will as well. I choose to have faith in humanity.
